Organizations exist in the world that are attempting to subject mankind to the domination of one-world government for the single purpose of exerting their will of total control on the world’s population far beyond that penned by George Orwell in his book 1984. The reasons for a one-world government are obscure and undefined except by those who would be in command. Hampton Squires is a member of two very powerful organizations that would combine with other one-world advocate associations to become the agency running the world dynasty. But what good is this ultimate power if your expected life span is only eighty years? Squires is in his sixties; he needs a fountain of youth. Squires’ pharmaceutical companies have searched for the secret of youth for over forty years, spending billions of dollars to control the aging process; their research has managed to add three years to the average life span. During an oil exploration flight, one of Squires’ pilots discovers a large pile of interesting boulders in the northern Sahara Desert, lands, and finds the ruins of an ancient people. An archaeological team sponsored by Squires confirms the pilot’s suspicions and, in the process, discovers what may be Squires’ “fountain of youth.” However, before the team can discover how to maintain youthfulness and share the information with Squires, they perish in the Sahara. With the news of the archaeological team’s disappearance, Hampton Squires gives no thought to the families left behind before enlisting Doctors of Archaeology, T. and Renée Mansfield, to finish the exploration and to bring back to him what they learn. The Mansfields are not prepared for what they find; they are equally not prepared for the life and death threat that pits their survival skills against would-be assassins. Hampton Squires will stop at nothing to obtain and control the knowledge hidden among the Sahara boulders. And the Mansfields will stop at nothing to make that same knowledge available to all mankind. HYBRIS pits evil against good, control against freedom, and disease and early death against the primal desire to live a long and healthy life free from unnecessary governmental intrusions. Is there a winner, or does everyone lose?

A wide area of legislative activity in major and minor Greek city-states, ranging from Delphoi and Athens in mainland Greece, to Gortyn in Crete, Olbia in South Russia and Aegean cities including Ephesos, Samos and Thasos, is covered. Ilias Arnaoutoglou divides legislation into three main areas: * the household - marriage, divorce, inheritance, adoption, sexual offences and personal status * the market-place - trade, finance, sale, coinage and leases * the state - constitution, legislative process, public duties, colonies, building activities, naval forces, penal regulations, religion, politics and inter-state affairs. Dr Arnaoutoglou explores the significance of legislation in ancient Greece, the differences and similarities between ancient Greek legislation and legislators and their modern counterparts and also provides fresh translations of the legal documents themselves.

Using material remains, as well as the evidence of contemporary Greek history, rhetoric, and poetry, David Castriota interprets the Athenian monuments as vehicles of an official ideology intended to celebrate and justify the present in terms of the past. Castriota focuses on the strategy of ethical antithesis that asserted Greek moral superiority over the "barbaric" Persians, whose invasion had been repelled a generation earlier. He examines how, in major public programs of painting and sculpture, the leading artists of the period recast the Persians in the guise of wild and impious mythic antagonists to associate them with the ethical flaws or weaknesses commonly ascribed to women, animals, and foreigners. The Athenians, in contrast, were compared to mythic protagonists representing the excellence and triumph of Hellenic culture. Castriota's study is innovative in emphasizing the ethical implication of mythic precedents, which required substantial alterations to render them more effective as archetypes for the defense of Greek culture against a foreign, morally inferior enemy. The book looks in new ways at how the patrons and planners sought to manipulate viewer response through the selective presentation or repackaging of mythic traditions.

The Cambridge Companion to Archaic Greece provides a wide-ranging synthesis of history, society, and culture during the formative period of Ancient Greece, from the Age of Homer in the late eighth century to the Persian Wars of 490–480 BC. In ten clearly written and succinct chapters, leading scholars from around the English-speaking world treat all aspects of the civilization of Archaic Greece, from social, political, and military history to early achievements in poetry, philosophy, and the visual arts. Archaic Greece was an age of experimentation and intellectual ferment that laid the foundations for much of Western thought and culture. Individual Greek city-states rose to great power and wealth, and after a long period of isolation, many cities sent out colonies that spread Hellenism to all corners of the Mediterranean world. This Companion offers a vivid and fully documented account of this critical stage in the history of the West.
