What would you do if someone brutally murdered your only child, served only months in jail because of a technicality, and continually taunted, even threatened, you from behind bars? Could you hide your growing rage from family and friends? Could you gun the killer down as he left prison? Could you change your ID and leave behind your entire life — family, friends, jobs, house — and just disappear? Could Tim and Martha Foster do this? Jim Mcleod is on the run. He's running from his responsibilities as a father, hiding out from his pregnant girlfriend and working as a groundskeeper in a rural graveyard. He's running from a lifetime of guilt and bad decisions, but principally he's running from the murderous entities that have possessed the very ground at his feet. Jim has no idea what these entities are, but they've done unspeakable things to everyone in the graveyard and now they're hunting him down. There is nowhere Jim can hide, nowhere he can walk and nowhere he can run that isn't under the lethal power of the things in the ground. If he stands any chance of survival he must uncover the link between his murderous tormentors, three mysterious graves and an ancient heresy that stretches back to the beginning of time. Run To Ground is a tale of extreme folk horror. It opens the reader's eyes to a terrifying new breed of gods and monsters, but be warned, within these pages you'll find blasphemy, brutality and unbelievable depravity the likes of which you've never read before. Think that's too grandiose a claim? Why not put us to the test. Go on, click the 'Buy now' button, we double dare you...

Much the way Donald Hall’s Seasons at Eagle Pond captured New England, Sky Time in Gray’s River captures the essence of the rural Northwest. Although Rober Michael Pyle is a lepidopterist, and southwestern Washington is notable for its lack of butterflies, something about the village of Gray's River spoke to him on a visit thirty years ago. Ever since then he has lived in the village, which was one of the first to be established near the mouth of the Columbia River and which still feels only tenuously connected to the twenty-first century. Sky Time brings Gray's River to life by compressing those thirty years into twelve chapters, following the lives of its people, birds, butterflies - and cats- month by month through the seasons. In showing how the village has changed his life, Pyle illustrates how a special place can change anyone lucky enough to find it and highlights what is being lost in a world of accelerating speed, mobility, and sameness. Above all, Sky Time tells us that you dont have to travel far to see something new every day - if you know how to look.

The new European Joint Aviation Requirements (JARs) lay down rules governing the minimum levels of performance which must be attained by every type of public transport aeroplane. These rules cover matters such as weight, altitude and temperature, take-off and landing distance, cruise flight level and speed, and descent angle and rate. The subject of aircraft performance forms an important part of all JAR Flight Crew Licensing examinations for commercial and airline transport pilot licences, and this book provides a clear but authoritative text on a difficult topic. It will also be of interest to commercial pilots needing to upgrade their annual ground test to JAR standards, and to flight planners, operations controllers and airport operators.

In Dead Girl Walking, Brookmyre has written his most accessible book yet—a thrilling story of sex, drugs, rock ‘n’ roll, and murder. Life is dangerous when you have everything to lose. Famous, beautiful and talented, Heike Gunn has the world at her feet. Then, one day, she simply vanishes. Meanwhile, journalist Jack Parlabane has lost everything: his career, his marriage, his self-respect. A call for help from an old friend offers a chance for redemption—but only if he can find out what happened to Heike. Pursued by those who would punish him for past crimes, Parlabane enters the secret-filled world of Heike’s band, Savage Earth Heart, a group at breaking point. Each of its members seems to be hiding something, not least its newest recruit Monica Halcrow, whose alleged relationship with Heike has become a public obsession. Monica’s own story, however, reveals a far darker truth. Fixated on Heike from day one, she has been engulfed by paranoia, jealousy and fear, as she discovers the hidden price of fame. From Berlin to Barcelona, from the streets of Milan to remote Scottish islands, Parlabane must dredge up old secrets to find Heike before it’s too late.

Behind me stretch four generations of military lives. This book is for the most part, the story of my life as the daughter of a two star general and the wife of a three star general. It recounts the fascinating lands I was either fortunate enough to reside in or visit and as an adult I went into these civilizations and continents with fire in my belly to capture the cultures, the landscape and the people with my two Nikons hanging off my neck. Even after retirement it was hard to shed my peripatetic life style so I went to China, Bali, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. It's a story about doing the best you can with the cards you are dealt, about making your way through difficult moments and supporting your children and your husband and keeping it all together. The military is not an easy life but it is a good one. And I do not hesitate to recount some of the more wretched events. For the most part it has been a charmed life. I write about unique incidents: having a gun fired at my car on an early morning trip to the airport in Bangkok. Of a shoot-out in a Pamplona, Spain square and of being reunited with a childhood friend in Oslo, Norway - then a young prince - and at the time of the visit the Crown Prince and now the King. During our two year Italian Odyssey we received a letter from the Countess Chinigo of Ravello for a dinner at her villa above the Amalfi Coast. We did not answer. But on the second effort, we did and thus visited her numerous times in her little gem of a villa. I was a lucky, lucky woman.
